I use NetBeans IDE 8.0. I think if you are professional programmer, you definitely need to use professional tool. Instead of a simple editor with code highlight you should use an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) For example, with the Netbeans IDE in addition to code highlight you can: - manage your projects; - debug your code - you can run project step by step and on the each step you can see all your variables, all values etc.); - tips for php functions; - auto suggestions; - you can see errors in your code immediately; - the history of your code (what and when did you change); - work with repositories in your editor (checkout, commit, push, pull); - refactoring; - auto format; - apply patches; - and so on; If you are working with code for 8 hours every day, then good editor can save you a lot of your time. It is a little difficult to start using it, but after you try you will never back to the simple editors like notepad++ or Blue Fish (I had been using it for a very long time).
